Questions & Answers
Whether you're new to doula care or just curious about what to expect, we've gathered answers to the most common questions to help you feel informed and confident.
What does a doula do?
A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after birth. We’re not medical providers—we don’t deliver babies—but we’re there to guide, comfort, and advocate for you throughout the process so you feel empowered and supported.
Will a doula replace my partner?
Not at all! A doula complements your partner, not replace them. We support both of you. Many partners feel more confident and involved when a doula is there to guide them and share the load.
When should I hire a doula?
The earlier, the better—many clients book in the second trimester. This gives us time to build a relationship, create a birth plan, and have prenatal visits. But I’ve also supported clients last-minute—don’t hesitate to reach out.
Can a doula help me with a hospital birth?
Absolutely! Many clients choose hospital births, and doulas are welcome in most settings. We can help you navigate hospital routines, communicate with staff, and stay connected to your birth preferences.
Do you offer payment plans or sliding scale options?
Yes! I believe birth support should be accessible. Let’s talk—I offer flexible payment plans and a limited number of sliding scale spots for families with financial need.
How is a doula different from a midwife or doctor?
Doctors and midwives are responsible for your medical care. A doula focuses on your emotional well-being, comfort, and experience. We work alongside your care team to support you with techniques like massage, breathing, positioning, and encouragement throughout labor and postpartum.
What if I want an epidural or a planned C-section? Can I still have a doula?
Yes! Doulas support all kinds of births—medicated, unmedicated, induced, surgical, or spontaneous. Our role is to help you feel informed, calm, and supported no matter what path your birth takes.
Do doulas help with postpartum care too?
Yes! Most doulas offer postpartum support, which may include newborn care tips, emotional check-ins, feeding guidance, and simply being a calm, listening presence in your transition to parenthood.
